General Information
Yarden Merlot was produced from Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, all grown in the Golan Heights. The cool climate, rocky volcanic soil and high altitude are ideal conditions for growing classic wine grape varieties. Aging in French oakbarrels for fourteen months balances the existing orange zest and berry characters present in the wine with a layer of rich oak and vanilla. To preserve the quality of the wine, this bottle should be stored on its side in a cool, dark place. Best servedat 65-70 degrees F.

Dense, dark, concentrated. This wine initially is closed, but with 2 hours of breathing opens up nicely. It is a concentrated classic old world style merlot. Great flavor, density, grip, and long finish. It will age well. The 04 Merlot Ortal is much more impressive, but this is impressive in its own right.

This is a very good bottle, concentrated fruit, well-integrated, nice finish. Highly recommended.

I bought a case of the 2000 about two years ago and I am down to my last bottle. The reviews are right that it needs a little time to air out, but the nose is amazing and the taste is rich. This is not your typical $20 wine.

This bottle was perfect! the nose was classic old world style, very vegatal and hints of the dark fruits like plum and black berries. This wine is at its drinkable prime. It hardly needed to decant and was ready to go straight out of the bottle. while it was a little sedimenty, the texture was nice and meaty with a very nice balance of oak and tannins. beautifully dry. Superb

As usual, an excellent bottle from Yarden. However, the Yarden cabernet has (relatively) more depth, and the Gamla merlot is probably a better value.

Soft, smooth and polished, shows tempting ripe cherry and currant fruits, those supported nicely by layers of Mediterranean herbs, vanilla and light hints of smoky oak.

Perhaps one of the best wines I've ever had. Certainly the BEST Merlot I've ever had. The 2000 vintage just peaked and this wine exhibited remarkable tannins, aromas of cured leather, blueberry, hints of lemon, passion fruit, lightly roasted coffee beans, pure cocoa beans, and the list goes on and on. This Merlot is extremely complex and layered. I don’t care what $200 bottle Merlot you throw at me from France, Italy, Australia, this is one of the BEST Merlots in the world and for a fraction of what other Merlots fetch. I can't wait to take a trip to the Golan Heights Winery again this summer. B"H Israeli wines are able to compete in the world market and are considered to be some of the best in the world.

Drinking well, with rich undertones, though not overpowering fruit. Not too tannic, and a barely evident oak finish make this great with most red meat dishes, as well as pasta. I'd guess this stays good for another year or two.

Great wine for the price, though I doubt it has any shelf-life left. Very full taste for a merlot, and well-rounded. Finish the bottle the day you start it, though - it flattens out fairly quickly.

I was pleasantly surprised by this rich, tasty, full-bodied wine. It has a wonderful aroma and provides the palette with a warmth and smoothness. This is an excellent wine for the price and is comparable to other wines from Israel, France, and California priced much higher.

I was very amazed at the taste of this merlot, for its price. It had the full bodied taste of $60-$70 wines i have had. This has to be one of my most favorite merlot's under $50.

This is merely a fair wine. It needs a lot of time to breathe before it opens up. It should be consumed now. There is quite a bit of sediment in the bottom of each bottle so you might want to decant it. It has a slight coffee taste to it, and is otherwise okay. I give it an 85-86 out of 100.

This medium to full bodied, wine is delicious and deep. The wine has plenty of aromas and flavors of plum, chocolate, ripe berries, black cherries, jam, spices, and even traces of chocolate covered orange peel. All this is showcased atop a textured background of vanilla, oak and soft, integrated tannins. The wine is drinking well now; Drink by 2006 or 2007, but no later.
