When Don Alfonso ruled Spain in the 14th century, he realized that the prosperity of Spain depended on bringing people of disparate backgrounds together. He called its vineyards "the paradise of heaven" and proclaimed "its castles were gladdened by its good wines." The vineyards in Chile from where this Sauvignon Blanc comes are said to have been settled by his descendants.
