Yarden's Katzin Chardonnay 2004 of Golan Heights Winery was the only Israeli Wine to win the Gold Medal at Prestigious Chardonnay du Monde 2008 Competition. Therefore, I would suggest that the reader ignore my assertation that it was disappointing, somewhat musty and off flavor. Perhaps the bottle was a "lemon". Not terrible but not up to par with overall ratings.

I usually prefer red wines, but this white was delicious. It had complex flavors dominated by lychee and a buttery mouthfeel.

Rich, ripe, concentrated and complex with generous layers of figs, tangerines, summer fruits and hazelnuts. Generous but not imposing oak on the finish makes it especially elegant as does a hint of butterscotch that comes in on the long finish.

Beautiful straw-golden color, nice fruit, somewhat heavy on the oak, but ovearall, a quality New World-style Chardonnay.

This is an outstanding, full-bodied, complex, rich golden colored wine. This well balanced wine was aged for about 10 months “sur lie” -- (pronounced “sewr lee” meaning “on the lees,” or the method of ageing wine in contact with the “lees,” or the dead yeast cells that remain after primary fermentation) -- producing, in this instance, a wonderfully structured wine with a rounded, voluptuous, creamy, viscous mouth feel. This wine has great depth, exhibiting aromas and flavors of apples, pears, and tropical fruits, spices, vanilla, caramel, and subtle traces of oak. The finish is long and delicious. Drink now through 2008, perhaps longer.
