Noah Muscat
Vintage 2005
This deeply colored wine has a beautifully perfumed nose, redolent with honeysuckle and floral elements. On the palate it is silky and sweet with a lingering apricot finish. Well-balanced and wonderfully structured, this is a real steal for the money!
Noah Cabernet/Merlot
Vintage 2005
The nose on this wine is the most interesting component. I smelled a hint of grassy peatiness rounded out by rich boysenberry. The flavors on the palate were not unique, and I thought the finish awkward. Overall, not a very impressive wine.
Abarbanel Pinot Noir
Vintage 2005
This Pinot Noir boasts a beautiful, bright strawberry shade of red and a complex nose of wet earth, plums, and a touch of green pepper. Unfortunately, on the palate the wine is a little metallic and one dimensional. Could work nicely enough though with a chicken and mushroom dish.
Abarbanel Pinot Blanc
Vintage 2006
Very pleasant and easy drinking wine with a gentle nose and well-balanced acidity. Nothing earth shattering, but a nice match for many foods.
Dalton Canaan Red
Vintage 2006
Fantastic wine with a splendid bouquet of fruit and vegetal matter. Lots of pepper in the mouth and a smattering of blueberries at the finish. Interesting and fun to drink - a real winner!
Abarbanel Gewurztraminer
Vintage 2004
I do have a penchant for a good dry Gewurtztraminer, and this is a truly outstanding example of what an amazing wine this grape can produce. All the typical Gewurtztraminer flavors and aromas of exotic spices, lychees, and ginger were present along with a round, rich mouthfeel. Perfectly balanced, no easy feat with Gewurtztraminer, and delicious.
Abarbanel Riesling
Vintage 2004
This Riesling is very acidic, with a bright floral nose and green apple and pear notes on the palate. Texturally there is that solid glycerine feel that only a nice Riesling can achieve. Great match for sushi - I know from experience!
Herzog Special Reserve Russian River Chardonnay
Vintage 2005
Almost an Oak Monster! Against overwhelming odds this wine manages to maintain a certain crisp minerality, but the most notable taste and smell sensations are a woody vanillin oakiness mingled with about a quarter pound of butter. This wine manages not to be totally outrageous by a tiny margin of acidity. Still, this is a wine that many contemporary wine drinkers will find very appealing. I tasted this at a Kosher Wine Society event and everyone else seemed impressed by the wine.
Galil Mountain Pinot Noir
Vintage 2005
Outstanding Pinot Noir with a wonderfully aromatic nose, perfect balance, and lots of sour cherry and red fruit flavors. One of the best kosher Pinot Noirs on the market today.
Hamasrek The King's Blend
Vintage Not Specified
The Zinfandel in the blend packs a real punch and enables the wine to finish on a hint of ripe fruity sweetness. Very fun and unusual bottling. A definite crowd pleaser and good value wine.
Carmel Young Carignano
Vintage 2006
If you want to please a group of young drinkers this wine is certainly the ticket. With its bright strawberry fruit, vivid pink coloring, and bubbles this is a winner at every party.
Bartenura Prosecco
Vintage Not Specified
Great value for a wonderful bottle of Prosecco! Unlike most unsophisticated and slightly sweet Proseccos on the market, this Prosecco is well-balanced with nice acidity, integrated yeasty notes in the mouth, and a beautiful floral, lemony bouquet. Serve as an aperitif at your next dinner. It is sure to be a hit!
Baron Herzog Zinfandel Late Harvest
Vintage 2005
Yikes! This is one of the worst attempts at a dessert wine I have ever experienced. This wine smelled and tasted like spun sugar dipped in artificial rasberry candy. Thin body, very fruity, weak finish (thankfully in this case), need I say more...If you are into sipping Kiddush wine this is the ticket.
Baron Herzog Chardonnay
Vintage 2005
Very aggressive wine that should mellow out with time. Slightly smoky nose with tropical fruit flavors, mainly pineapple, on the mouth. An awkward initial palate feel that improves with drinking. This should improve over the next 2 years.
Baron Herzog Syrah
Vintage 2003
OK. A New World Syrah with all the robust fruit and American oak flavors that I have come to expect from California with none of that Old World depth and complexity. For the money it is a good match for lamb, beef and brisket.
Baron Herzog Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage 2004
A solid Cabernet Sauvignon with big red fruit and lots of peppery spice on the palate. Full-bodied with medium acidity. Great accompaniment to lamb!
Abarbanel Brut Cremant D' Alsace
Vintage Not Specified
I was pleasantly surprised by this creamy and rich Cremant. I thought the flavor profile was well-developed, and the nose was very pleasant if a smidge too yeasty. Not as acidic as I would have expected so you get a softer and more rounded mouthfeel than I am used to in French sparklers.
Chateau Bel - Air Bordeaux Superieur
Vintage 2001
Very austere and structured like most Graves from Bordeaux. Body is a little thin like most Bordeauxs from that year. Still young and tannic. Will improve with age, but pretty uninteresting.
Beckett's Flat Cabernet/Shiraz
Vintage 2006
Purpley red in color with grassy, peppery flavors on the nose. Spicy palate. Finish is flat and uninteresting. Simple, easy-drinking wine.
Beckett's Flat Chardonnay
Vintage 2007
Clear, pale yellow color with citrus and vanilla on the nose. Very yeasty and lemony on the palate. The finish is a little weak and uniform. Drink now.
