    Gush Etzion Winery

Gush Etzion lies south of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, and north of Hebron and has played a part in much of Israel’s state and pre-state history. The Gush Etzion Winery is deeply tied to the history of the Land of Israel and to Biblical lore. With stories of the Matriarchs and Patriarchs, and as the setting for the Book of Ruth, Gush Etzion holds great importance to not only the State of Israel but to the very story of the Jewish people. 3500 years ago, on his deathbed, the Patriarch Jacob blessed each of his sons. Upon his son Judah he conferred the blessing that he “…will wash his robe in wine, and his clothing in the blood of grapes. His eyes will be darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.”  A significant part of Judah’s legacy was an abundance of grapes in his tribe’s borders. Shraga Rozenberg has captured this blessing in Gush Etzion Winery.

    Gush Etzion Wine Series

Nachal Hapirim (Spring Valley) is the entry level series, comprised of blends, followed by Alon HaBoded (Lone Oak) which are the Reserve-level varietal wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling (which may be ending) and Chardonnay (which isn’t produced every year).  The winery’s flagship label is Emek Bracha Blessed Valley) and is all blends.

    Nachal Hapirim (Spring River)

Gush Etzion’s entry level series, which comprises blends such as Spring River Red Blend, which is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, and Spring River G.S.M., a Syrah-Mourvedre blend aged 12 months in French oak followed by 2 years of bottle aging.

    Alon HaBoded (Lone Oak)

Representing the Reserve-level varietal wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, and Rosé. The Lone Oak line comprises premium wines, symbolized by a single oak tree in the middle of the Etzion Bloc that early settlers would gaze at as they dreamed of a permanent return to the region. Gush Etzion also produces a 375ML size Single Vineyard Late Harvest Gewürztraminer, lovely as an aperitif or dessert wine.

    Emek Bracha (Blessed Valley)

The flagship wines from Gush Etzion Winery, showcasing the best of the terroir. This includes the Blessed Valley Red which is oak-aged for 20 months, and the Blessed Valley Chardonnay, a blend of Chardonnay and Viognier, picked from a low-yield vineyard to maximize the potential of the grapes, and oak-aged for 10 months.

    What are Gush Etzion’s Origins?

Built from the ground up by wine hobbyist Shraga Rozenberg, and his wife, Tamar, z”l, religious Zionists who moved to Efrat in the 1980s, Gush Etzion Winery began with Shraga’s fermentation of fruit from the small blackberry bush in his garden. With the prodding of his friends, Shraga began planting grapes and soon was fermenting the wines in his home living room. His love for the process blossomed into a winery that is now widely distributed in Israel and the United States. By 2005, the Gush Etzion Winery was officially born, and the surrounding kibbutzim all had a hand in producing the grapes that would fill the barrels and bottles of Gush Etzion Winery.

What is Gush Etzion most known for?

Creating wine in the Biblical landscape of Judea, fulfilling the promise of Jacob. A visit to Gush Etzion Winery will allow you to taste the beautiful wines, eat in the winery’s dairy and fish restaurant, and take in the magnificent views in “Tamar’s Garden,” inspired by archeological artifacts, the Winery and the colorful and lush vineyards surrounding it.

Most Popular Wines from Gush Etzion:

Gush Etzion Spring River Red Blend

This elegantly crafted blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot is a treat. The color is an intense red garnet. The nose is full of dark, rich, complex, and unique fruit; as well as hints of tobacco, chocolate, and some smoke. Enjoy the full-bodied and rich flavors that are balanced with good oak. This all adds up to a powerful wine with rounded tannins and a mouthwatering flavor. The grapes are grown on the slopes of the Judean Hills. The wine is matured in new French oak barrels for 21 months and will continue to age nicely in proper conditions for up to ten years from production.

Gush Etzion Lone Oak Sauvignon Blanc

The wine is produced from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown on the slopes of the hills of Gush Etzion. The wine is delicate with fragrances of melon, stone fruit, and citrus. The acid is balanced to provide a beautiful glass.

    Gush Etzion Lone Oak Gewürztraminer

The Gush Etzion Lone Oak Gewürztraminer is a semi-dry white wine full of complexity and flavor that will delight your senses.
