Amazing wine! Vintage, not mevushal, dry, from Israel... special reserve for sure!

Warning: I rarely finish a bottle of wine at one sitting and I have been drinking the current bottle of Gamla merlot over the past two weeks and am finishing it this evening. The bottle has been recorked each time wine remained in it.

The aromas were caramel and berry jam. The aromas alternated some with first one and then the other being dominant. The body is light/medium with medium astringency that clears the palate easily. This Gamla is just a bit lower overall in my rating than the Binyamina merlot that I reviewed before.

This was surprisingly delicious! We tend to prefer big, bold, important wines and stay away from anything light and fruity - but this one was beautiful. We just purchased more - great dinner and conversation wine.

I bought a case of this wine and we "sampled" one before deciding to use it for Passover. It has a full-bodied, fruity taste as any merlot should. We plan to use it for all four cups for seder.

There was fruit, but this wine did not age well. Still it's a Gamla and as a bottle for the 3rd or 4th cup at the seder it would be perfect. It seemed "tired."
