What are Hagafen’s Origins?
After founding Hagafen Wine Cellars in 1979, Ernie and Irit Weir released their first commercial vintage in 1980. Growing from a small partnership winery to a well-established wine company distributing its wines throughout North America and overseas. In 1986, Ernie purchased 12 acres on the Silverado Trail, now home to Hagafen Wine Cellars and to the Tasting Room. IN 1997 and 1999, respectively, the first and second halves of the properties were planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2000, the winery was built and the first vintage from the new facility was produced, followed by the opening of the new Tasting Room in 2001. Six acres in Coombsville were purchased in 2004 where Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Riesling were planted and harvested in 2007 for the first time. After the devastating wildfires of October 2017 damaged half of the vineyard, Hagafen made the decision to plant new vines on old rootstock and integrate new techniques for better results.
What is Hagafen most known for?
Founded in 1979, Hagafen is known as the first kosher winery in California, and as a winery that produces first-rate wines. Hagafen has helped transform the technique for creating mevushal wines that are indistinguishable from their counterparts while maintaining the ability to age gracefully. Hagafen creates wines that “happen to be kosher,” and have often been served at White House dinners.
