American Wine

The U.S. is one of the largest producers of Kosher wines in the world. While a lot of the volume goes to sacramental wines there are many premium wines produced across the country. California has long been considered the best wine producing region in the country, this holds true for Kosher wines as well. Led by the Herzog winery located in Oxnard, CA with productions from vineyards in critically acclaimed appellations such as Napa Valley, Russian River Valley, Chalk Hill and Stags Leap exemplify the quality of Kosher California wines. Other premium producers include Hagafen Cellars, located in the Napa Valley that has had their wines served in the White House, and Covenant Winery. Shirah and Hajdu are well known boutique wineries out of California that offer big, fruit forward wines.

Beyond California there have been productions in notable wine regions like the Finger Lakes in NY. Washington State has recently emerged as a premium wine region for kosher red wines, notably Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Oregon offering Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, has been popular amongst Burgundy wine lovers. A handful of other productions from vineyards in WA, NJ and PA round out the current scope of Kosher productions in the US.

The quality of wines being produced in America ranges from Sacramental to super-premium, age-worthy collectables. The variety available from these productions covers many categories including white, red, rose, sparkling and dessert wine. You can find wines at all price ranges from the value wines under $20 from producers like Herzog, Weinstock and Twin Suns, to top shelf releases that fetch over $200 from producers like Yesod, Tench, and Marciano Estates.

The wines produced domestically have been popular amongst Kosher wine drinkers, both for their value and New-World fruit-forward style (which is somewhat similar to the wines being produced in Israel). Many of the wines in the $40 plus range have aging potential and make for good options to cellar.
