The grapes used for these world famous kosher wines are harvested in Monsant in the Spanish hills of Capcanes. Although this vineyard was replanted in the early-mid 1900s, it did not start producing kosher wine until 1995. Capcanes wines have been renowned for their impressive aging potential, and are often commented to go extremely well with red meats.

    Capcanes

Located in the stunning Montsant region of northeastern Spain, Capcanes began making kosher wines over two decades ago following a request from a Jewish family living in nearby Barcelona. Seeking to combine ancient winemaking techniques with modern technology, the winery has identified small parcels of exceptional fruit which are carefully vinified in accordance with Jewish law. These are some of the most exciting kosher wines coming out of Europe today thanks to the sunny Mediterranean climate, excellent soils, and impressive viticultural talent at Capcanes.

    Peraj Petita

These classic and easy-going bottlings are the perfect introduction to Spanish wines with juicy Mediterranean flavors and spicy influence from the oak maturation for the reds.

    Peraj Ha’abib

This collection showcases Capcanes’ remarkable talent for kosker winemaking with big, showy Spanish reds which are ideal for special occasions or important family gatherings.

La Flor Del Flor De Primavera

This premium series represents the very best of Capcanes, using the very finest fruit and extensive barrel ageing to create powerful, ageworthy reds that are a worthy addition to any collector’s cellar.

    How did Capcanes start?

Celler Capcanes was founded by a group of local families in 1933 as a co-operative, but it wasn’t until the mid-1990s that the modern winery emerged. Over the past couple of decades Capcanes has switched to high-quality terroir focused winemaking and converted 5% of their production to kosher wines.

What is Capcanes most known for?

Set in Catalonia’s Montsant wine region, Capcanes is blessed with all the right ingredients for exceptional winemaking. Local varieties thrive in the sunny Mediterranean climate and mixture of clay, limestone, slate and sandy soils, producing powerful, concentrated wines with a real sense of place. Their kosher wines are made strictly according to Jewish law and are overseen by the Orthodox Union (USA) and Kosher Federation (UK).
