Psagot: An Award-Winning Boutique Winery in The Hills of Jerusalem

By Gregory Aubrey

Since 2003, Psagot has been making some of the best and award-winning wines from Israel. Located in an area just north of Jerusalem in the Binyamin region, Psagot’s vineyards benefit from exceptional vine-growing conditions.

Perhaps one of the most recognized wine bottles in the kosher market and beyond, the iconic gold coin on the bottle is a replica of an actual coin that was discovered in an ancient wine press in Psagot’s vineyards.

Today, the winery produces more than 300,000 bottles a year, offering a range of 11 different wines, from creative and flavorful blends to high-quality single vineyards that represent the true essence, uniqueness, and quality of Psagot’s vineyards.

Quality Wine Making

“Led by talented and creative winemaker Joshua Hexter, Psagot consistently produces high quality wines, many of which have won international awards and medals from famed competitions and wine critics alike.

What is unique about these high quality grapes used in making Psagot wines is that they are planted in ancient chalk terraces, where the vine’s roots penetrate the rock and enhance the quality of the grapes, creating fantastic wine that is both aromatic and robust.

The vineyards, located at a high altitude at 900 meters above sea level, as well as the weather climate from the region, allows ideal conditions for Psagot’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah varieties. In addition, all of the wines are aged for at least a year in French oak barrels, adding complexity and flavor to the wines before bottling.
