Teperberg Winery: A Journey of Tradition, Innovation, and Excellence

The winery officially took shape under the leadership of the second generation, Zeev Zaid, who established Teperberg Winery in Jerusalem. Despite the geopolitical instability of the time, the winery thrived with the support of the Austrian consulate and even became the official wine supplier to the Austrian army in Israel. This period marked the winery as a symbol of Jewish resilience and revival.

In 1925, under the guidance of the third generation leader Mordechai Shimon, Teperberg Winery relocated to Romema. This move signaled a new era of expansion and development. By 1945, responding to increasing demand and advancements in winemaking technology, Yitzhak and Menachem Teperberg, the fourth generation, moved the winery to a larger facility in Motza, Jerusalem.

The tradition of innovation continued with the fifth generation, led by Moti Teperberg in 1984. Moti modernized the winery's operations and positioned it as one of Israel's most technologically advanced wineries. A significant milestone occurred in 2006 when Teperberg Winery moved to its current location in Matte Yehuda, further cementing its role as an industry leader.

In 2015, Teperberg Winery launched the Well Harvest 5 series, a collection that highlights the contributions of five generations of the Teperberg family. This series, which includes the Vision, Impression, Inspire, Essence, and Legacy wines, represents a blend of tradition and contemporary winemaking excellence.

Teperberg Winery's commitment to showcasing Israel's unique terroir is reflected in its diverse range of grape varieties. They follow the philopsophy that " In our vineyards, we grow wine, not just grapes"

Their red wines prominently feature Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with Petit Verdot and Malbec. For white wines, they focus on Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, while also incorporating lesser-known varieties like Semillon, Chenin Blanc, and French Colombard. The winery sources grapes from specific vineyards across Israel, from the Golan Heights to the Negev, to capture the best characteristics of each region. 

Their production focuses on creating wines that authentically showcase the variety: delivering freshness and aromatics with a balanced interplay between the fruit and barrel aging.

Among Teperberg's acclaimed offerings is the Essence Cabernet Sauvignon, a best-seller celebrated for its complexity and richness. Another standout is the Legacy Cabernet Franc, which exemplifies Teperberg Winery's dedication to producing wines with distinct varietal identity and exceptional aging potential.

The 2020 vintage posed significant challenges due to extreme heat. However, Teperberg adapted by implementing a trellising system to protect grape clusters and adjusting their irrigation practices. Despite these difficulties, the winery maintained its commitment to quality, showcasing its resilience and innovative spirit.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of Teperberg Winery's philosophy. Their vineyard in Emek Elah adheres to LODI WOLF sustainable farming practices, ensuring environmental stewardship while maintaining the high quality of their wines. This approach underscores their dedication to preserving the land for future generations.

Teperberg Winery has ambitious plans for the future, including the introduction of new varieties and special blends. One notable upcoming release is a traditional Blanc de Blanc, set to debut in the 2024 harvest. Deeply connected to their local community, the winery supports various art initiatives and continues to build on its rich heritage while embracing modern winemaking trends.
