Rabbi Shlomo Itzhaki, commonly known by the acronym Rashi, was a French Rabbi in the eleventh century when he wrote a comprehensive commentary on both the Talmud and the Tanakh. In addition to writing the quintessential Talmud commentary, included in every printing since the original pressing in the sixteenth century, Rashi is believed to have been a vintner, keeping pristine vineyards, producing his own wine and possibly selling it as well. Today, he lends his name to Rashi Wine, an Italian based kosher winery with additional production in New York and California. These wines are perfect for a large kiddush at your shabbos table, or if you're just in the mood for something light and sweet.

How did Rashi Start?
The winery is named after the 11th century French Rabbi Shlomo Itzhaki who was known by the acronym “Rashi” and is reputed to have also been a winemaker. The company’s Italian winery draws on ancient local winemaking traditions and techniques, with the cellar remaining much as it was centuries ago with oak barrels lining the dimly-lit stone corridors.
What is Rashi most known for?
As well as their historic base in Italy, Rashi makes kosher wines in New York and California which allows them to produce a diverse range of styles ranging from traditional concord wines to indigenous Italian varieties. The winery skilfully combines time-honored methods with the very latest technology to produce easy-drinking kosher wines which deliver exceptional value.
